Training Puppies with Basic Commands

Training Puppies with Basic Commands Bringing a new puppy into your home is an exciting and joyful experience. At Dutch Town Doodles, we understand the importance of starting your puppy off on the right foot when it comes to training. That's why we make it a priority to train our Mini Bernedoodle puppies with basic commands from the very beginning. Training your puppy with basic commands not only helps to establish a strong bond between you and your furry friend, but it also sets the foundation for a well-behaved and obedient dog. Here are some examples, thoughts, and tips to help you with training your new Mini Bernedoodle puppy: 1. Sit: Teaching your puppy to sit is one of the first commands you should focus on. Start by holding a treat close to your puppy's nose and slowly move it upwards. As your puppy follows the treat with their eyes, their bottom will naturally lower to the ground. Once they are in a sitting position, say the word "sit" and reward them with the treat. Repeat this process several times a day until your puppy understands the command. 2. Stay: Teaching your puppy to stay is essential for their safety and your peace of mind. Begin by asking your puppy to sit. Once they are in a sitting position, hold your hand up in front of their face and say the word "stay." Take a step back and wait a few seconds before returning to your puppy and rewarding them with praise and a treat. Gradually increase the distance and duration of the stay command as your puppy becomes more comfortable. 3. Come: Teaching your puppy to come when called is crucial for their safety, especially when they are off-leash. Start by getting down to your puppy's level and saying their name followed by the word "come." Use an excited and encouraging tone of voice to entice them to come to you. When your puppy reaches you, reward them with praise and a treat. Practice this command in a safe and secure area until your puppy reliably responds to the come command. 4. Potty Training: At Dutch Town Doodles, we start potty training our puppies from an early age. We teach them to use a bell to signal when they need to go outside. Hang a bell by the door and encourage your puppy to touch it with their nose or paw before going outside. Each time your puppy rings the bell, immediately take them outside to their designated potty area. Be consistent and patient with this training method, and soon your puppy will understand the connection between the bell and going outside to potty. 5. Consistency and Positive Reinforcement: Consistency is key when it comes to training your puppy. Set aside dedicated time each day for training sessions and be patient with your puppy as they learn. Use positive reinforcement, such as treats, praise, and affection, to reward your puppy for their good behavior. Avoid punishment or harsh training methods, as this can lead to fear and anxiety in your puppy. At Dutch Town Doodles, we believe in providing a loving and caring environment for our Mini Bernedoodle puppies. We start their training with basic commands and ensure they are well-socialized before they go to their new homes. We also offer ongoing support and guidance to our customers to help them continue their puppy's training journey. Remember, training your puppy is a journey that requires time, patience, and consistency. With the right approach and lots of love, your Mini Bernedoodle puppy will grow into a well-behaved and obedient companion.
